K-OP-A: Armored Optical Sensors Chain
Armored Optical Sensors Chain for Harsh Environments
The K-OP-A measurement chain is a configurable array of optical FBG (Fiber Bragg Grating) sensors that withstand extremely harsh operating conditions. Such conditions can likely damage the adhesive bond of classic optical strain gauges.
A K-OP-A chain of optical sensors can integrate in a single optical fiber both, OL-WA linear weldable gauges, well-suited for high-strain applications, and OR-WA weldable rosettes, which measure strain at different points and directions.
Suitable to be spot welded to steel structures and materials, the K-OP-A sensors feature rugged fiber leads with armored cable protection.
In addition, OL-WA linear gauges can be used for temperature compensation of other optical strain sensors. The only requirement is to weld them to a steel body (OTC-WA-Plate) that can be ordered together with the sensor.
For spot welding, the Heller c30 Impulse Welding Device is recommended (not available in the US).
Example of a configured chain:
Passive
Inherent immunity to all electromagnetic effects (EMI, RFI, sparks, etc.)
Electrical isolation
Safe operation in hazardous environments (e.g. potentially explosive environments, high voltage areas and intense electromagnetic fields)
Extremely Robust
Stainless steel packaging and steel-reinforced coating
Outstanding bending capability (6 micron core fiber)
Accurate results during 24/7 operation in aggressive atmospheres and under harsh environmental conditions, even on curved surfaces
Reliable
Based on the measurement of an absolute parameter – the Bragg wavelength – independent of power fluctuations
Self- referenced meaning: high quality measurements with long-term stability
Easy to Install
Easy installation by simple spot welding method
Long service life with a permanent non-degradable attachment to the structure material
