Root Cause Analysis of Noise and Vibration in Electrical Machines

This two-day, in-person event is to help familiarize you with acoustic signature of electric motors and to apply advanced techniques to troubleshoot and reduce noise of electric motors.

OVERVIEW:

Controlling electrical noise from the design stage to the prototyping phase is particularly important for the development of electric motors. Electromagnetic forces can be a major source of unpleasant noise. The purpose of this technical workshop is to familiarize with acoustic signature of electric motors (Day 1) and to apply more advanced techniques to troubleshoot and reduce noise of electric motors (Day 2). Through all the development stages of e-machines, simulation and experiments are required to fully characterize theirs NVH behaviors. EOMYSand HBK, each one specialized in their respective domain (e-NVH analysis and simulation, and measurement), collaborate to organize a detailed live workshop. You have the option to register for one or both days.

April 13th – No Charge

This Technical Workshop focuses on:

  • Introduction to e-NVH detailing the physical generation process of magnetic noise and vibrations
  • Noise and Vibration data acquisition with HBM Genesis HS and analysis with Bruel & Kjaer BK Connect™ software during a e-motor run-up
  • Noise and Vibration simulation with Manatee software including Root Cause Analysis demonstration
  • The process to identify the root cause of noise is therefore addressed based on tests and simulations.

April 14th – $700

The Technical Workshop focuses on:

  • Description of standard tests to identify causes of noise due to magnetic forces including order tracking analysis, Experimental Modal Analysis, Operational Deflection Shape, Time/Frequency Colormap
  • Noise and Vibration data acquisition with HBM Genesis HS and analysis with Bruel & Kjaer BKConnect software including EMA and ODS
  • Theory of e-NVH from magnetic force shapes, resonance effects, to air-borne/structure-borne transfer paths
  • Review of application cases with Manatee software including skewing and default demonstration
  • Analysis of specific slot pole combination provided by the participants

At the end of the two day workshop, each trainee receives the theoretical workshop support as well as free access to e-NVH pedagogical videos gathered by EOMYS consultants and R&D engineers.
